About the position

The Major Gifts Officer at the Senator John Heinz History Center is a vital role within the Advancement Team, responsible for implementing fundraising strategies to meet financial goals for various institutional needs. This position involves managing a portfolio of major gift prospects, enhancing relationships with current donors, and coordinating planned giving efforts. The Major Gifts Officer will collaborate with the Executive Vice President and staff across the History Center's family of museums to create targeted appeals for mission-related programs and initiatives, while also conducting donor research and maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Implement fundraising strategies to meet institutional financial goals for general operating, special projects, capital needs, and endowment.
  • Manage a portfolio of major gifts prospects and enhance relationships with current donors.
  • Coordinate planned giving efforts and work with the Executive Vice President and staff to create targeted appeals for specific programs.
  • Conduct prospective donor research and cultivate relationships with potential donors.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate stewardship of donors and prospects to enhance their connection with the History Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of experience in the not-for-profit sector or equivalent experience.
  • Superior customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to communicate convincingly and professionally in-person, on the phone, or in writing.
  • Understanding of the development of annual departmental revenue goals and budgeting.
  • Ability to develop and execute initiatives and strategies for major individual gifts and planned giving programs.
  • Strong research skills to identify new donor prospects.
  • Collaboration with the Executive Vice President and Communications team to create compelling messages and campaigns.
