About the position

The Major Gifts Officer at Liberty House is responsible for engaging and cultivating relationships with high-level supporters to secure major gifts of $10,000 and above. This role focuses on building a strong donor portfolio, meeting fundraising goals, and facilitating community partnerships to enhance the organization's major giving initiatives. The Officer will work closely with various stakeholders, including the Director of Development and Community Engagement, to promote community stewardship and successful fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Nurture, cherish, and recruit community members who support our mission and develop a year-round major gift stewardship and communication program.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of over 100 new and potential major supporters, and maintain and improve that portfolio each year.
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO, Deputy CEO, Development Director, Board of Directors, and other donor relations team members to thank and cultivate strong relationships within our community.
  • Conduct ongoing research to establish new donor relationships and project avenues to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Make critical, 5- and 6-figure solicitations as appropriate.
  • Facilitate the gratitude process for high-level supporters.
  • Work with Community Engagement Director to develop and strategize corporate giving and engagement strategies.
  • Meet with corporate leaders to present Liberty House's mission and facilitate preferred methods of contributions, such as major gifts, company matches, volunteering, and sponsorships.
  • Maintain a portfolio of local businesses and their interest in getting involved with Liberty House.
  • Conduct tours and attend community events, such as Chamber of Commerce Greeters, to connect the public with our mission.
  • Become Liberty House's expert in planned giving to better develop our legacy donors program.
  • Meet with local law firms and estate planners to build relationships and ensure we can provide proper communications and procedures to our donors who wish to learn more about planned giving.
  • Conduct or organize planned giving presentations annually or as appropriate to our interested donors.
  • Acquire mastery of Boomerang, our donor and contact database.
  • Assist with planning and execution of annual major fundraisers.
  • Maintain the highest expectations regarding customer service interactions.
  • Be able to work under short deadlines and high-pressure situations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, information technology, human resources management, or a related field.
  • Two years or more in a field requiring customer service skills (5+ years of fundraising experience).
  • Two years or more experience in database management (2+ years major giving experience).
  • Advanced skills in database maintenance or administration, preferably with Boomerang.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong skills in telephone, written, and verbal communication.
  • Valid Oregon driver's license and acceptable driving record, proof of automobile insurance; and personal reliable transportation.
  • A criminal background check, DHS Child Welfare Registry check, and sex offender registry check are all required for employment at Liberty House and will be completed for finalists.
  • Experience working in nonprofit settings.
  • Knowledge of child abuse dynamics.
