About the position

The Major Gifts Officer at United Way of Central Alabama is responsible for supporting the Major Gifts team and Resource Development Department in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with major donors contributing $10,000 or more. This role involves working closely with fundraising volunteers and managing a portfolio of select major donors to enhance the organization's annual campaign and other fundraising initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the highest level of service to United Way's major donors through continuous improvement of efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness.
  • Recruit, train, and support major donor volunteers and volunteer committees.
  • Manage membership in Tocqueville Society, including stewardship of current members and solicitation of new members.
  • Collaborate with finance and corporate relations departments to manage the donor database and ensure accuracy of information.
  • Prospect for new and existing donors with the capacity to increase their current level of giving.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Prepare required fundraising reports for volunteers and organizational leaders.
  • Act as United Way representative at various corporate and community events.
  • Support the Major Gifts team with correspondence, events, and day-to-day operations.
  • Maintain knowledge of community economic and social forces affecting the Major Gifts Division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2 to 5 years of successful fundraising experience with a United Way or other fundraising organization preferred.
  • Major donor experience preferred.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with high-net worth individuals, families, and business leaders.
  • Excellence in written and oral communications.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in database management utilization.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office.
  • Reliable transportation, proof of automobile insurance, and valid driver's license.
