The Radford University Maker Space Manager is responsible for overseeing the Maker Space, ensuring it serves as a safe and welcoming environment for students and faculty to explore and develop their creative projects. This role involves developing and implementing innovative programming and workshops that engage the university community in both digital and physical fabrication. The Manager will provide mentorship and guidance to students, helping them utilize the cutting-edge technologies and hand tools available within the Maker Space and other specialized studios. In addition to programming, the Manager will monitor and maintain the equipment and space within the Maker Space, ensuring that all resources are operational and conducive to creative endeavors. This includes contributing to the maintenance of specialized equipment in studio spaces within the Artis Center. Collaboration with other staff members is essential for planning and executing special projects and programs that enhance the Maker Space experience. The Manager will also assist in the planning and budgeting processes for the Maker Space, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively. Utilizing usage data and other metrics, the Manager will continually improve programming and the overall Maker Space experience. Troubleshooting technical issues related to 3-D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and other digital and physical fabrication technologies is a key responsibility, as is providing timely support to users. The Manager will demonstrate expertise in 3-D printing and digital fabrication technologies, staying abreast of advancements in the field. Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and safety standards within the Maker Space environment is also a critical aspect of this role, as well as contributing to such efforts in studio spaces in the Artis Center.
