About the position

The Mammography Technologist II position at Houston Methodist is an experienced role responsible for performing a variety of routine and specialized mammograms, ensuring quality control, and delivering exceptional patient care. This position also serves as a mentor to less experienced technologists and students, utilizing clinical skills and sound judgment to handle challenging procedures and patient care situations. The role emphasizes adherence to established mammography standards and guidelines to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mammograms for diagnostic and screening purposes, including biopsies and bone density exams.
  • Assess and respond to patient needs to optimize care and image quality, modifying technical factors as necessary.
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional breast procedures, ensuring sterile techniques are followed.
  • Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients and family members regarding procedures.
  • Maintain safety standards and conduct imaging procedures in compliance with regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to quality and safety targets.
  • Ensure imaging equipment is properly maintained and report malfunctions as needed.
  • Engage in teaching and mentoring of Mammography Technologist I and students.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for required certifications.
  • Three years of experience as a Mammography Technologist.
  • CMRT - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist - State Licensure or CMRT-Temp - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist - Temporary State Licensure.
  • ARRT-R - Radiologic Technologist - Radiographer certification.
  • ARRT-M - Radiologic Technologist - Mammography certification.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate multiple computer systems.
