About the position

The Mammography Tech Registered is responsible for performing mammography and radiographic procedures independently, ensuring high-quality imaging while adhering to safety practices. This role requires flexibility to work at off-site clinics and emphasizes patient-centered care, quality assurance, and effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Produces images of high diagnostic quality for all mammographic procedures including ductograms, implants, and needle localizations.
  • Performs bone density examinations as needed.
  • Selects proper technical factors and positions patients accurately, maintaining a repeat rate at or below the national standard.
  • Assists in the performance of all Quality Assurance (QA) and Control duties related to mammography in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Serves as a patient liaison, assisting patients with follow-up procedures related to breast imaging.
  • Acquires complete and appropriate patient history and conveys pertinent information to the radiologist.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of front desk and file room procedures, communicating delays to patients and explaining procedures clearly.
  • Encourages and assists in research at the technologist level, keeping abreast of new procedures and exams.
  • Independently assists the radiologist during invasive procedures such as biopsies and abscess drainages.
  • Practices positive patient identification and confers with the radiologist regarding patient care and protocol as necessary.

Requirements

  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in both general radiography and mammography as required by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).
  • Two years of experience in a clinical setting as an ARRT Registered Technologist preferred.
  • Ability to perform mammography and bone density imaging procedures independently and accurately.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in the advanced discipline of bone densitometry preferred.
