About the position

The Budget Analyst position at St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners involves facilitating, coordinating, preparing, and monitoring the county's budgets. The role requires financial analysis to support budget development and management operations, ensuring the county's long-term financial stability while improving communication with citizens and county partners.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, analyzes, and executes county budget strategies and prepares the county budget.
  • Examines department budget estimates and proposals for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with established procedures.
  • Prepares and reviews county department and capital project budget amendments and Board of County Commissioners agenda items.
  • Maintains the county's Capital Improvement Plan and debt financing strategy.
  • Develops and maintains databases and analytical tools for financial decision making.
  • Develops financial forecasting and modeling, and maintains county program performance measure reporting.
  • Reviews and interprets federal, state, and local laws or regulations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Assists county administration and provides oversight to departments with financial and budget management issues.
  • Monitors assigned department budgets and ensures compliance with established procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties, usually associated with five years in a similar position.
  • A Master's degree may substitute for two years of required experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves
