About the position

The Management and Program Assistant (Office Automation) position at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) involves providing administrative support within the Taxpayer Services Division. The role focuses on identifying and resolving operational issues, ensuring compliance with established procedures, and preparing reports and recommendations to enhance program efficiency. Responsibilities

  • Identifies potential and actual problems, probable causes, and provides recommendations for resolution.
  • Researches a variety of issues, gathers statistics and information, and reports findings for the full scope of a program or function.
  • Monitors, reviews, and evaluates operations and interrelationships with other functions regarding workflow, work redundancy, or systemic problems and provides recommendations to higher levels analyst(s) or supervisor.
  • Verifies completeness of controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with established procedures, guidelines, and formats.
  • Revises procedures, guidelines, and controls as a result of changes in higher level procedures or as instructed by analyst(s) or comparable positions.
  • Prepares memoranda, preliminary reports, and charts showing findings and recommendations.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal government, or a bachelor's degree or four years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience gathering and compiling available data and information for aspects of a program and reporting findings to a higher level employee.
  • Monitoring and reviewing established administrative procedures and program operations and assisting in the preparation of memoranda, reports, and charts.
  • Using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software to prepare documents and to enter, revise, manipulate, sort, calculate, store, and retrieve data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Typing proficiency with a minimum speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Experience in a federal agency or similar environment.
