About the position

As the A&R Research Manager at BMG, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and evaluating emerging musical talent, analyzing market trends, and providing valuable insights to inform our artist signing decisions. This position requires a passion for music, strong analytical skills, and the ability to navigate various research methodologies to uncover promising artists and opportunities for the label. You will lead and manage the A&R research function, overseeing a team of researchers and interns, and develop and implement research strategies to identify and evaluate emerging musical talent across various genres and regions. Your responsibilities will include conducting in-depth market analysis, tracking industry trends, consumer preferences, and competitor activity to inform A&R decision-making. You will build and maintain a comprehensive database of artists, songwriters, producers, and industry contacts, keeping abreast of new developments and emerging trends. Collaboration with A&R executives will be essential to support artist scouting efforts, providing research-driven insights and recommendations for potential signings. Additionally, you will attend live performances, showcases, and industry events to discover new talent and network with artists, managers, agents, and other industry professionals. You will also liaise with external research partners, including data analytics firms, market research agencies, and industry associations, to access relevant insights and resources. Preparing and presenting research reports, presentations, and briefs to senior management and key stakeholders will be a critical part of your role, ensuring effective communication of findings and recommendations.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Previous experience in A&R, music research, or a related role within the music industry.
  • Strong passion for music and a deep understanding of various genres, trends, and cultural influences.
  • Proficiency in research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative analysis, data mining, and trend forecasting.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Proficiency in industry tools and platforms, including music streaming services, social media analytics, and artist databases.
  • Creative thinking and a proactive approach to problem-solving, with a curiosity for exploring new avenues and opportunities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Marketing, Market Research, or a related field is not a must but a plus!
