About the position

The Manager of Accounting plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting reporting activities within the organization. This position is designed to enhance the efficiency of accounting processes while ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The individual in this role must demonstrate flexibility and the ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision. The Manager will also be responsible for performing various duties as assigned by the Controller or Chief Accounting Officer (CAO). In addition to managing reporting activities, the Manager will assist in training Staff and Senior Staff Accountants, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle their responsibilities. This includes assigning, coordinating, and reviewing the work performed by staff members as requested by the Controller or CAO. The Manager will document procedures as necessary and assist in the preparation of various financial reports, including monthly financial reports, board reports, ALM reports, and variance analyses. Furthermore, the Manager will contribute to the preparation of the Quarterly 5300 Call Report and the annual audited financial statements, budget, and tax returns (Form 945, 990 & 990t). The role also involves preparing schedules for external auditors and examiners, posting general ledger entries, and performing daily and monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts. The Manager will engage in special projects and other duties as directed by the Controller or CAO, ensuring that all accounting activities align with regulatory standards and internal policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with training Staff / Senior Staff Accountants in their daily, monthly and quarterly duties and serve as backup when needed.
  • Assist with assigning, coordinating and reviewing work performed by staff as requested by Controller / CAO.
  • Document procedures as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly financial reports, board reports, ALM reports and variance analysis as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Quarterly 5300 Call Report as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements, budget, and tax returns (Form 945, 990 & 990t) as needed.
  • Assist in preparation of schedules for external auditors and examiners as needed.
  • Assist with preparing and posting GL entries as needed.
  • Assist with performing and review of daily / monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger account reconciliations as needed.
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as directed by the Controller or CAO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in finance/accounting from a four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of two years related experience in a credit union or other financial institution.
  • Excellent knowledge of credit union policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, regulatory accounting, and state and federal regulations.
  • Strong background in finance and accounting.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, accept responsibilities and make decisions.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate activities for the department or a project team.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to effectively utilize new software programs to perform routine tasks.
  • Proven experience working with spreadsheet and data with an intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA or potential CPA candidate is preferred.
