About the position

The Accounting Manager at Maersk is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the daily accounting tasks associated with the Warehousing and Distribution activities within the WND group. This position requires a strong focus on the Month End close process, ensuring that it aligns with APM Good Accounting Practices and reconciles accurately to the financial statements. The Accounting Manager must ensure that all monthly deadlines for financial reporting are met in a timely and precise manner. This includes proactively communicating any information that may affect monthly or annual estimates to management, ensuring that it is included in the reported financial results. Additionally, the role involves overseeing the administration of internal control procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures. In this role, the Accounting Manager will supervise both onshore and offshore subordinates within the Accounting Team, ensuring that their responsibilities are executed productively and efficiently. The manager will be responsible for providing management with accurate financial results within established timelines, highlighting any significant variations between estimates, forecasts, and actuals. Close communication with all facilities and cross-functional teams within WND is essential to understand the financial impact related to operations. The manager will also summarize financial results for the accounting period, focusing on unusual variations between actuals, estimates, forecasts, and budgets. The Accounting Manager will be tasked with automating processes and tasks within the Accounting Team to accelerate book close deadlines. This includes reviewing and approving journals, accruals, and reconciliations prepared by the team for completeness and accuracy, ensuring that appropriate supporting documentation is included. The role also involves engaging with internal and external financial audits, acting as a mentor to subordinates, and coordinating with various corporate functions such as Tax, Claims, Treasury, and Payroll. Furthermore, the manager will oversee revenue and expense accruals for unbilled activity, manage bad debt calculations, and handle the intercompany process between WND and all Maersk affiliates. Special projects as directed by management will also be part of the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise subordinates in the Accounting Team (onshore and offshore) and ensure that their responsibilities are carried out in a productive and efficient manner.
  • Ensure that the monthly book close is performed timely and in accordance with outlined procedures.
  • Provide Management with accurate financial results within established timelines, highlighting significant variations between estimates, forecasts, and actuals.
  • Maintain close communication with all facilities and cross-functional teams within WND to understand financial impacts related to operations.
  • Summarize financial results for the accounting period, focusing on unusual variations between actuals, estimates, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Automate processes/tasks within the Accounting Team to accelerate book close deadlines.
  • Review and approve journals/accruals/reconciliations prepared by the Accounting Team for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure appropriate supporting documentation is included as backup.
  • Engage and provide data as requested for internal and external financial audits.
  • Act as a mentor, motivate and assist in the career advancement of subordinates, and perform subordinate appraisals.
  • Hold regular meetings with staff to monitor progress.
  • Coordinate with Maersk Inc. regarding Corporate functions including Tax, Claims, Treasury, and Payroll.
  • Oversee revenue and expense accruals/estimates for unbilled activity.
  • Manage bad debt activity and calculation.
  • Manage the intercompany process between WND and all Maersk affiliates.
  • Liaison with Global Service Centre to reconcile local books in NetSuite to SAP and One Stream ERP systems.
  • Perform special projects as directed by Management.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in accounting within a mid-large size organization
  • Supervisory experience required
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • NetSuite experience would be a plus
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and supervisory experience
  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize with attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills necessary to operate in a time-sensitive environment
  • Team player that can coordinate with managers and colleagues to successfully participate in cross-functional initiatives
  • Ability to independently organize work to meet deadlines
  • High level of ability with computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint as well as Maersk proprietary systems knowledge.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with a Global Service Center (GSC) would be a plus.
