About the position

The Manager - Accounting position at Verizon involves leading accounting tasks and project assignments while ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. The role requires a combination of accounting expertise and project management skills to support leadership in analyzing and reporting on general ledger transactions. The manager will also coordinate with finance teams to simplify processes and ensure accurate accruals, while providing mentorship and direction to team members.

Responsibilities

• Perform accounting tasks and project assignments utilizing a combination of systems/IT and accounting skills.
• Lead all aspects of the completion of complex analytical assignments and preparation of accounting related reports.
• Support leadership with analyzing and reporting on general ledger transactions and other accounting related projects.
• Coordinate with other finance teams to ensure complete and accurate accruals and simplify processes.
• Lead the company's efforts to comply with Sarbanes Oxley requirements and ensure adherence to internal policies and external regulations.
• Provide subject matter expertise on the application of accounting principles.
• Review the work of others and analyze output for appropriate accounting treatment, completeness, and accuracy.
• Lead reviews for accuracy of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
• Direct efforts in developing, implementing, and maintaining systems, procedures, and policies for the group.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or four or more years of work experience.
• Six or more years of relevant work experience.
• Experience in the preparation of general ledger postings and account reconciliations.
• Knowledge of FASB and SEC requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and accounting best practices.
• Experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis, and project management.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of accounting systems and applications including SAP, CPM/Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, Blackline or related systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
• CPA certification.
• Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.
• Experience in the design and implementation of accounting systems and applications.
• Knowledge of report query and design.
• Strong management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and strong written and verbal communications skills.
