About the position

The Manager, Actuarial and Analytics at Travelers Insurance is a pivotal leadership role that combines analytical expertise with strategic execution. This position is designed for individuals who are not only skilled in actuarial science but also possess a strong business acumen. The Manager will collaborate closely with actuarial, analytic, and business partners to drive project success and operational efficiency. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including reserving, rate-making, pricing, planning/forecasting, project management, and research. The individual will be expected to provide analytical insights and recommendations to leadership and business unit partners, making them an influential member of project teams. In this role, the Manager will work across multiple lines of business, particularly focusing on supporting filed rating plans within Business Insurance. This involves developing and implementing rates, rating plans, and pricing strategies that align with the company's objectives for profitability and growth. The position offers a unique opportunity to engage with various enterprise disciplines and build relationships with pricing managers, regional actuaries, product teams, and compliance areas. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with a keen attention to detail. They will be responsible for both routine projects and more complex research or rate plan management initiatives. The Manager will also play a crucial role in strategic initiatives, proposing innovative solutions to enhance project performance and timelines. Operationally, they will conduct independent actuarial and analytic analyses to address business challenges, ensuring accountability for process efficiencies. Effective communication is key, as the Manager will need to convey analysis and project results to peers and business partners, often translating technical topics for non-technical audiences. Additionally, the role includes talent management responsibilities, such as mentoring team members, onboarding new employees, and supporting training initiatives across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Develop solutions to resolve challenges of an initiative.
  • Propose change and innovation to improve project team performance and timelines.
  • Independently perform actuarial and analytic analyses to solve business problems.
  • Support and drive components of unit initiatives and broad department initiatives.
  • Communicate analysis, project results, and other business initiatives to peers and business partners.
  • Mentor less experienced talent across the Enterprise and support various training initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 2 years of experience in quantitative analysis required.
  • College degree in a STEM-related field preferred.
  • Associate Actuarial Credential preferred.
  • 4+ years of quantitative analysis experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products and industry.
  • Demonstrated ability in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.
  • Strong PC skills (MS Office) and programming skills (e.g., SQL, SAS).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in leading projects and meetings.
  • Initial development of leadership skills, including mentoring and training team members.
  • Familiarity with business drivers and disciplines such as underwriting, products, and financials.
