The Manager, Actuarial and Analytics at Travelers Insurance is a pivotal leadership role that combines analytical expertise with strategic execution. The Manager will be responsible for a range of tasks including reserving, rate-making, pricing, planning/forecasting, project management, and research. This multifaceted role requires the individual to provide analytical insights and recommendations to leadership and business unit partners, making them an influential member of project teams. In this position, the Manager will work across multiple lines of business, particularly focusing on supporting filed rating plans within Business Insurance. The responsibilities include developing and implementing rates, rating plans, and pricing strategies that align with the company's profitability and growth objectives. The role offers extensive exposure to various enterprise disciplines and necessitates building relationships with pricing managers, regional actuaries, and compliance areas. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with a keen attention to detail. They will manage routine projects while also leading more complex research or rate plan management initiatives. The Manager will participate in strategic initiatives, proposing innovative solutions to enhance project performance and timelines. They will independently conduct actuarial and analytic analyses to address business challenges and support departmental initiatives. Effective communication is crucial, as the Manager will need to convey analysis results and project outcomes to peers and business partners, often translating technical topics for non-technical audiences. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities for talent management, such as mentoring team members, onboarding new employees, and supporting training initiatives across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Develop solutions to resolve challenges of an initiative.
  • Propose changes and innovations to improve project team performance and timelines.
  • Independently perform actuarial and analytic analyses to solve business problems.
  • Support and drive components of unit initiatives and broad department initiatives.
  • Communicate analysis, project results, and other business initiatives to peers and business partners.
  • Mentor less experienced talent across the Enterprise and support various training initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 2 years of experience in quantitative analysis required.
  • Strong PC skills (MS Office) and programming skills (e.g., SQL, SAS).
  • 4+ years of quantitative analysis experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products and industry.
  • Demonstrated ability in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate Actuarial Credential preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
