About the position

The Manager, Afterschool Programs is responsible for implementing the overall program strategy for the DCPS Afterschool Programs across over 50 school sites, ensuring compliance with the federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. This role involves hiring personnel, coordinating professional development, monitoring program quality, and collaborating with various stakeholders to create a sustainable infrastructure for afterschool services.

Responsibilities

  • Develop overall program strategy and performance measures for multiple projects and operational priorities.
  • Lead the implementation of program evaluation with external evaluators and ensure project completion.
  • Assign, direct, and evaluate the work of Afterschool Coordinators and Grant Specialist.
  • Oversee the hiring process of all DCPS afterschool school-based staff.
  • Develop strategies for addressing performance objectives defined by OSSE and the 21CCLC grant application.
  • Anticipate and resolve complex obstacles to program success and reporting.
  • Lead program monitoring activities and implement data collection tools.
  • Liaise with the Office of Communications and Engagement regarding program partnerships.
  • Provide oversight for program evaluation and coordinate remedial actions as needed.
  • Stay informed about innovations and developments in out-of-school time programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four to six years of related work experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience managing others preferred.
  • Experience managing grants or knowledge of the 21st Century Grant preferred.
  • Experience in strategic planning, program design, and evaluation.
  • Experience in programming and curricular design for children and/or youth.
  • Strong people skills to build relationships with community organizations and stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector.
  • Experience working with community organizations and public officials.
