About the position

As a Manager of Analytics Engineering at Penn Interactive, you will lead the Data Insights & Analytics team in developing sustainable data-driven solutions aimed at enhancing profitability, growth, and user experience. This role requires a blend of strategic and tactical skills, working collaboratively with various data teams and business stakeholders to leverage data for performance tracking and decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a passion for data, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, particularly in the context of professional sports and gaming.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate between Data Analytics/Science and functional business teams to ensure effective delivery of analytical projects.
  • Provide guidance on designing enterprise-level presentation layer data sets and integrating data sources.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to identify data-driven projects and collaborate with data engineers to build data pipelines.
  • Manage Airflow tasks and scheduling for data processes.
  • Assist and mentor team members in resolving data issues and conducting analyses.
  • Identify opportunities to apply data modeling and advanced analytics techniques for insights.
  • Oversee the team's output and analysis to ensure accuracy and informativeness of data shared.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and professional development of team members, including mentoring Data Analysts and Analytics Engineers.
  • Promote self-service data analytics among team members and business stakeholders.
  • Define and improve internal standards for analytics infrastructure and best practices.
  • Coach and develop a team of Analytics Engineers to foster collaboration and maximize strengths.
  • Review the accuracy of data, results, and conclusions produced by the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or other STEM field.
  • 4+ years of experience in analytics, preferably in a digital company, with some leadership experience.
  • Fundamental understanding of Kimball Dimensional Modeling.
  • Ability to liaise with stakeholders and Data Engineers for requirements gathering and deliverables.
  • Passion for solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex data clearly.
  • Proficient in relational databases and engineering best practices (e.g., SQL, DBT, Git, Airflow, CI/CD).
  • Hands-on experience with dbt, including building and deploying models.
  • Experience with data exploration and analysis tools such as Looker and Python.
  • Attention to detail and desire for end-to-end ownership of deliverables.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative with a positive attitude and strong sense of empathy.
  • Familiarity with cloud processing and data storage environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) is an advantage.
