About the position

The Manager, Application Development for Data Products at Portland General Electric (PGE) is a pivotal role within the Advanced Energy Delivery Technology Solutions (AEDTS) team. This position focuses on managing data products and solutions on the AWS cloud, supporting enterprise-wide functions. The manager will oversee a suite of data and analytics products that enhance various business areas, including line operations, crew coordination, wildfire mitigation, grid planning, and customer programs. This role is essential for leveraging data-driven insights to improve efficiency and decision-making across the organization, contributing to PGE's goals of decarbonization, electrification, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of developers, data scientists, and engineers working on data products and applications.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle for data products, from conception to deployment and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders, and technical teams to define product requirements and roadmaps.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and efficient data products that meet business objectives.
  • Implement and maintain best practices for software development, including coding standards, code reviews, and testing procedures.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure timely delivery of data products.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in data science, machine learning, and software development.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance on technical challenges and career growth.
  • Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations in all developed products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Eight or more years of experience in a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of business goals and scope-of-change initiatives.
  • Advanced knowledge of user experience design frameworks and change management processes.
  • Familiarity with programming languages commonly used in data products (e.g., Python).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with agile methodologies and project management tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in machine learning and risk management.
  • Knowledge of outage management systems and APIs.
  • Experience in product management and UX.
