About the position

As a Manager of Application Engineering at Discover Financial Services, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the reliability and performance of Payment Services applications. This position focuses on designing and implementing analytics and automation solutions to improve application efficiency and reliability. You will lead a team of engineers, driving technical development and quality delivery of software engineering solutions while fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning within the team.

Responsibilities

• Lead Payments Reliability initiatives to improve system availability, self-healing, performance, efficiency, monitoring, reporting, forecasting, and capacity planning.
• Mentor and lead analytics and automation engineers in both technical and soft skills.
• Contribute as an engineer within a product team, designing, developing code, and maintaining quality technology solutions.
• Hire, retain, and lead a diverse group of engineering professionals, establishing clear objectives and key results.
• Manage software ownership and development from initial concept through continuous improvement.
• Shape the technical vision within the product team and act as a leader in the Discover engineering community.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Engineering.
• 6+ years of experience in Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related fields.
• 2+ years of people leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience in multiple software languages and modern software methods, including CI/CD and cloud.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with analytics, data science, or machine learning models.
• Coding and scripting experience in Python.
• Experience in program management and leading process improvement initiatives.
• Experience with performance engineering and monitoring large scale distributed systems.
• Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and cloud computing platforms like AWS.
