About the position

As a Manager Application Engineering at Discover Financial Services, you will lead the technical development of software engineering staff, driving vision into action and results. Responsibilities

• Guide and drive teams to efficient engineering solutions for achieving iterative business deliverables, including designing system architecture and writing code.
• Question the status quo and strive to establish the right engineering culture and mindset, encouraging teams to own the product.
• Contribute as an engineer within a product team, designing, developing code, and maintaining quality technology solutions.
• Hire, retain, and lead a diverse group of engineering professionals, establishing clear objectives and driving towards resolution of challenging problems.
• Mentor and lead a staff of engineers in both technical and soft skills, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
• Lead and shape the technical vision within their domain, acting as a leader in the Discover engineering community.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in Information Technology or Software Engineering.
• Demonstrated experience in multiple software languages, modern software methods, CI/CD, cloud, and automated testing.

Nice-to-haves

• 2+ years of people leadership experience.
• Experience with data processing ETL tools like Ab-initio or Informatica.
• Technical expertise with data models and data segmentation techniques.
• Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, or Postgres.
