About the position

The Manager of Audio Systems Design at Disney Live Entertainment is a creative leader responsible for developing and implementing audio systems designs for live shows and facility infrastructure. This role involves overseeing the creative process, ensuring quality in audio systems for productions, and mentoring designers within the department. The position requires collaboration with various teams and maintaining industry connections to enhance the audio experience in Disney's entertainment offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Audio Systems designs for live shows and facility infrastructure
  • Participate in a Project's creative development and production phases
  • Provide direction, oversight, and input during Creative Reviews, Design Reviews, and other major milestones
  • Lead research & development efforts for Audio systems
  • Ensure quality of audio systems for all Disney Live Entertainment productions
  • Assist designers in planning, prioritizing, coordinating, and implementing design concepts
  • Accountable for resource planning, staffing forecasting, and estimating at both department and project levels
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of internal and external Audio Design Talent
  • Mentor and coach department members and the DLE organization
  • Engage in the creative development and professional growth of designers and leaders
  • Negotiate and lead contracted Audio Systems Designers and vendors
  • Define new workflow strategies, technologies, and applications
  • Maintain relationships with Executive Leadership on behalf of the Audio Department
  • Develop and maintain industry connections, both functional and ceremonial
  • Serve as primary contact for the Manager-Technical Production and other teams

Requirements

  • 8+ years of proven experience in the Entertainment Industry working in audio systems design, media playback, programming, routing, show development, and operation of live shows
  • Outstanding understanding of current technology, theory, and industry standards for audio systems design
  • Demonstrated understanding of audio distribution and routing systems, including advanced network setup and signal flow
  • Extensive experience in audio systems design practice and procedures including show design and live performer amplification
  • Demonstrated functional leadership ability, including problem-solving and negotiating skills
  • Ability to lead a creative team of proficient designers
  • Proven ability to initiate, coordinate, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks on time
  • Ability to handle financial/accounting issues relative to area of responsibility
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation and public speaking skills
  • Knowledge of Walt Disney World Entertainment and industry standards
  • Willingness to travel to domestic and foreign venues if needed

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Technology and Design (MFA preferred)
  • Experience in audio production or equivalent work experience
