About the position

Corning is seeking a Manager of Automation Controls Engineering to lead a team of controls engineers in producing comprehensive controls solutions and electrical design packages tailored to project specifications and standardized design practices within the Optical Communication Solutions Technology Automation Development Group. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the engineering team delivers high-quality designs that meet the operational needs of the organization while adhering to industry standards and best practices. The successful candidate will supervise, train, and guide electrical controls engineering designers and programmers, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and efficiency. This position requires close collaboration with the Early-Stage Development Engineering team to support concepts and testbeds, ensuring that projects are executed effectively from inception through to life support. The Manager will also work with project teams to develop a robust electrical design and programming philosophy that aligns with the standards set by the OCS Technology Automation Development Group. In addition to technical leadership, the Manager will be responsible for evaluating team performance, setting goals aligned with project expectations, and creating a controls strategy that enhances process automation technology within the organization. This role demands a detail-oriented, task-focused individual who is prepared to work additional hours as necessary to meet project deadlines and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and guide all electrical controls engineering designers and programmers that are part of the OCS team
  • Collaborate with Early-Stage Development Engineering team in support of concepts, testbeds, and own projects through life support
  • Work with project team members to develop an electrical design and programming philosophy that meets OCS Technology Automation Development Group standards
  • Evaluate and communicate performance for assigned team members, ensuring timely submission of technical and behavioral assessments to Controls Supervisor
  • Set goals for all team members in alignment with project expectations
  • Create controls strategy for process automation technology organization

Requirements

  • BS degree in computer science, engineering, system design, controls technology or similar
  • Minimum of 10 years of hardware design and programming experience
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience directing electrical hardware engineers and software designer teams in machine/automation projects
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience of hardware design and programming teams with an emphasis on meeting schedule and budget
  • Task-focused, detail-oriented, with the ability to work additional hours as needed
