About the position

The Manager of Automation Engineering at GAINSCO is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and optimization of the company's test automation infrastructure. This role involves driving automation strategy, collaborating with development and quality assurance teams, and ensuring the efficient delivery of high-quality software products. The position requires a strategic mindset and the ability to mentor and manage a team of automation engineers while fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute test automation strategies, aligning them with quality and business goals.
  • Lead and mentor a team of automation engineers, providing coaching, training, and support.
  • Foster a positive work environment that motivates and engages team members.
  • Manage team staffing needs, recruitment, and onboarding of new hires.
  • Oversee performance management, disciplinary actions, and team development.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the testing lifecycle.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in test automation and performance testing.
  • Implement and promote best practices for test automation across the organization.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate automated testing into the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Work closely with manual testing teams to ensure seamless testing experiences.
  • Actively participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release planning meetings.
  • Monitor and report on automation progress, addressing any bottlenecks or challenges.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure automation effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in test automation, including scripting and framework development is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing a team of automation engineers is required.
  • Expertise in automation systems, Selenium and other testing frameworks, AI, Cloud technologies, and programming languages like C#, SQL, and Java.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Octopus, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, and experience with performance/load testing tools like JMeter, LoadRunner, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Azure Devops.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Azure or AWS is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Property and Casualty (P&C) Insurance and insurance COTs products (e.g., Duck Creek, Guidewire) is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
