About the position

The Manager of Broadcast Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of three full power television stations, ensuring smooth and efficient broadcasting. This role involves managing a team that handles live newscasts, master control, and various technical operations, while also collaborating with multiple departments to maintain high-quality broadcasts and effective communication. The position requires strong leadership skills, operational oversight, and a commitment to developing standard operating procedures to enhance broadcast quality.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily broadcast operations for WOFL, WRBW, and WOGX.
  • Oversee a dynamic operational crew performing tasks such as directing live newscasts and master control operations.
  • Collaborate with Programming, Traffic, News, and Creative Services to ensure accurate processing of schedules and service requests.
  • Administer staff schedules and time off requests.
  • Develop, update, and implement standard operating procedures for clean broadcasts.
  • Address operational errors and implement corrective measures.
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and training efforts for operational staff.
  • Serve as lead operator and content administrator for key systems like Grass Valley iTX, Bitcentral, and Sony ELC.
  • Assist with engineering department long-range planning and purchase processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in live news production, master control, or engineering at a 24/7 broadcast television station.
  • Previous management experience is a plus.
  • College degree in communications, television, or relevant field preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with master control and/or production automation systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft operating systems and applications, especially Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication, written, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Grass Valley iTX, Bitcentral, and Sony ELC systems.
  • Familiarity with broadcasting regulations and standards.
