About the position

The Manager, Business Operations at the University of Miami is responsible for overseeing all business and administrative functions within the Institute of the Mathematical Sciences of the Americas (IMSA). This role includes managing budgets, operations, and personnel administration, as well as providing financial analysis and strategic planning. The Manager collaborates with various levels of management to ensure effective execution of departmental plans and adherence to university policies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and evaluate business operations for the department/division, including reporting, budget support, and process improvement.
  • Develop and ensure adherence to the department's annual budget according to University guidelines.
  • Participate in financial analysis and planning, monitoring monthly budget variances and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Advance strategic financial plans and make recommendations to senior management.
  • Formulate department policies and guidelines to support the University and department mission.
  • Oversee the review, approval, and reporting of all expenditures and financial transactions.
  • Create and manage support systems for cost-effective supplies and management information.
  • Monitor contractual obligations and ensure alignment with departmental goals and initiatives.
  • Evaluate internal controls and approval processes, recommending improvements for fiscal integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Implement human resources actions, including hiring and performance evaluations.
  • Recruit, train, and prepare performance reports for staff.
  • Assess the effectiveness of internal controls and ensure compliance with University policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to manage a budget and work within its constraints.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others.
  • Proficiency in computer software, particularly Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in English and Spanish for effective communication with participants from Latin America.
