About the position

The Manager of Hospital Billing at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is responsible for overseeing the operations and management of Patient Financial Services. This role includes managing billing, collections, cash management, and ensuring regulatory compliance while participating in the long-term strategy for the department. The manager will supervise department supervisors and billing staff, focusing on performance management and training to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the billing process.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the overall operations of Patient Financial Services including billing, collections, and cash management.
  • Manage regulatory compliance and participate in long-term strategy for the department.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of billing specialists, conducting performance evaluations and providing necessary training.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve billing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare and government regulations in the preparation and submission of claims.
  • Monitor and resolve billing discrepancies and denials.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on billing activities, collections, and outstanding claims.
  • Address patient inquiries and concerns regarding billing, providing clear and accurate information.
  • Collaborate with the finance department to reconcile accounts and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Business or Hospital Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in hospital billing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with revenue cycle management in a hospital setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Medicare billing regulations and guidelines.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems, preferably EPIC.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) certification.
  • Call Center Experience.
