About the position

The Manager, Butcher position at SpartanNash is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the butcher department in a retail store. This role involves managing staff, ensuring product quality and freshness, maintaining inventory, and meeting company performance goals. The manager will also be responsible for training associates, implementing safety and food guidelines, and participating in company meetings to drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day activities of the butcher department operations in a retail store.
  • Order and maintain inventory while ensuring product freshness and quality.
  • Review and validate received orders for amount, quality, count or weight, and condition.
  • Manage a team to complete stocking, production, and additional tasks to ensure product quality and accuracy.
  • Maintain familiarity with all products carried in the department and throughout the store.
  • Communicate and execute the weekly and period Flight Plan to company expectations.
  • Manage scheduling, labor control, overtime control, and payroll expense for the department.
  • Implement and model the company's core values and competencies.
  • Oversee staffing, training, performance management, and career development of associates.
  • Develop and monitor department goals and forecasts as required.
  • Participate in daily huddles and manager meetings, both in person and online.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-stocked department according to company standards.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and safety guidelines throughout the store.
  • Develop and implement plans to meet company goals and key performance indicators.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Two years of retail experience preferred.
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organization, prioritization, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities in a hands-on environment.
  • Good strategic planning and business acumen skills.
  • Knowledge of retail store operations and management systems.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.
