About the position

Stanford University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Manager of Capital Accounting Project Accountants to join its Financial Management Services (FMS) team. This position is hybrid eligible and will report directly to the Director of Capital Accounting. The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee the project accountants within the Capital Accounting group, managing the university's Capital Projects from inception to completion. The manager will ensure accuracy and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle while collaborating closely with key stakeholders to align with finance and accounting policies. In this role, the manager will provide leadership and direction to staff, ensuring that the goals and vision of the organization are met. This includes hiring and retaining staff, offering career coaching, and being accountable for employee performance. The manager will also design and execute an effective system of internal controls, establish operational objectives, and ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures. Additionally, the manager will be responsible for developing and delivering complex analyses and high-level strategic modeling to support the organization's objectives. Responsibilities

  • Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve organizational goals and day-to-day operations.
  • Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, and professional development.
  • Design and execute an effective system of internal controls for areas of responsibility.
  • Establish operational objectives to ensure controls are working effectively.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for functional areas managed.
  • Provide strategy, vision, and direction for the Capital Accounting group.
  • Interpret, implement, and ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Recommend and formulate internal administrative policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Direct process improvement initiatives for the organization or program.
  • Develop and deliver complex analyses and high-level strategic modeling.
  • Represent the organization's business operations and administrative affairs to external constituencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications, such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply, interpret, and implement GAAP.
  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills including conflict resolution.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong expertise in business and management computer applications and databases.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and/or regulatory requirements.
