About the position

The Manager for the Center for College-to-Career Planning and Employment at Houston Community College is responsible for overseeing the operations of the center, which aims to provide students and alumni with the necessary tools to make informed career decisions, complete their training, and secure meaningful employment. This role involves managing staff, coordinating recruiting activities, providing career coaching, and developing partnerships with businesses to enhance student success.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff working with industry businesses to create employment opportunities.
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the office and manage service operations.
  • Organize recruiting activities including job fairs and interviews.
  • Participate in district-wide meetings to develop strategies and best practices.
  • Provide career coaching and guidance to students and staff.
  • Administer career assessment tools and develop college-to-career plans with students.
  • Investigate potential business and school partnerships to improve student success.
  • Build relationships with alumni to increase their involvement in career services.
  • Coordinate and implement career readiness workshops.
  • Interview students to assess their job needs and manage employment data.
  • Provide monthly reports for the Director of the Center.
  • Develop and present workshops for community outreach efforts.
  • Network with organizations related to employment and career preparation.
  • Identify employers' job needs and facilitate customized training.
  • Maintain up-to-date Career Services web pages.
  • Monitor staff performance and manage the budget.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences, Business or related field required.
  • 5 years of related experience in career and employment services in an academic or business environment required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Career Advising Certification or evidence of professional career development training preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office Products.
  • Knowledge of budget management and workforce issues.
