About the position

The Manager, Center Store at SpartanNash is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the department within a retail store. This role includes ensuring that associates are trained, the department is fully staffed, and operations meet company standards and key performance indicators. The manager will also handle inventory management, staff performance, and adherence to food safety guidelines, all while fostering a People First culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day activities of department operations in a retail store.
  • Order and maintain inventory while ensuring product freshness and quality.
  • Review and validate received orders for accuracy and condition.
  • Manage a team to complete stocking, production, and additional tasks.
  • Maintain familiarity with all products in the department and store.
  • Communicate and execute weekly and period Flight Plans to company expectations.
  • Implement work schedules, labor control, and payroll expense management.
  • Model core values and competencies while implementing Our Winning Recipe.
  • Manage staffing, training, performance management, and career development of associates.
  • Develop and monitor department goals and forecasts.
  • Participate in daily huddles and manager meetings as required.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-stocked department.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Two years of retail experience preferred.
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organization, prioritization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities in a hands-on environment.
  • Good strategic planning and business acumen skills.
  • Knowledge of retail store operations and management systems.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in grocery retail management.
  • Knowledge of inventory control procedures.
