The Manager of Classification is responsible for overseeing the operation of the Classification Department within a correctional facility. This role involves supervising the Classification Counselor and providing essential counseling services to inmates, assisting them in adjusting to institutional life, and guiding them in selecting appropriate self-help, therapeutic, educational, and vocational programs. The Manager will also help inmates obtain necessary services or changes in their assignments, ensuring that they are supported throughout their rehabilitation process. As a member of the Institutional Classification Team (ICT), the Manager plays a crucial role in the classification and management of inmate populations. This includes providing individual counseling to inmates regarding their work and housing assignments, addressing adjustment problems, and discussing requests for transfers, job changes, furloughs, and promotions. The Manager will determine inmate eligibility for various programs and monitor their custody, housing, job, and program assignments to ensure timely reviews. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for making referrals for inmates with serious issues to professional counseling staff, updating facility classification review forms, and ensuring compliance with the Agency's Classification Plan, applicable court orders, and ACA standards related to classification. The role requires collaboration with other departments to identify areas needing additional inmate workers and reviewing inmate medical statuses to assess eligibility for job assignments. The Manager will also utilize computer applications to record educational and habilitative programs and maintain compliance with ACA standards pertaining to classification, records, inmate job assignments, and unit orientation. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
