About the position

The Manager of Classification at GEO Group is responsible for overseeing the Classification Department, providing essential counseling services to detainees, and ensuring their successful adjustment to institutional life. This role involves supervising staff, managing detainee programs, and collaborating with various departments to enhance the overall rehabilitation process.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the operation of the Classification Department.
  • Provides individual counseling to detainees regarding work and housing assignments, adjustment problems, and family issues.
  • Discusses detainee requests for transfers, job changes, furloughs, and promotions, referring cases as appropriate.
  • Determines detainee eligibility for programs beneficial to their adjustment to the facility.
  • Monitors detainee custody, housing, job, and program assignments to ensure timely reviews.
  • Makes referrals for detainees with serious problems to professional counseling staff.
  • Updates facility classification review forms and ensures compliance with the Agency's Classification Plan and ACA standards.
  • Reviews detainee activity plans developed by Classification Counselors to ensure they meet standards.
  • Works closely with other departments to identify areas needing additional detainee workers.
  • Reviews detainee medical status to determine eligibility for job assignments.
  • Maintains compliance with ACA standards pertaining to classification, records, and unit orientation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, or a closely related field, or four years of correctional experience or certified law enforcement officer experience with a minimum high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Five years of experience in caseload management of offenders in a correctional setting.
  • Experience as a Supervisor preferred.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn rules, regulations, and security procedures required by the facility.
  • Proficiency in using computers and necessary software.
