About the position

The Communications and Social Media Manager at Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) is a full-time professional position responsible for overseeing all aspects of the college's and Wachholz College Center's social media presence. This role involves creating, editing, and producing engaging digital content, including weekly newsletters and email marketing campaigns aimed at informing and engaging both the campus community and the public. The manager will be the primary contact for all student-related activities and will maintain and promote the events calendars for FVCC and Wachholz College Center, with the goal of increasing awareness and participation among students and the community. This position requires a flexible schedule, as events often occur outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends. Key responsibilities include developing and managing FVCC's social media presence across various platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. The manager will conceptualize and create engaging media content that promotes FVCC and its events, utilizing photography, video, and compelling writing. Additionally, the manager will write, design, and distribute three weekly digital newsletters that highlight campus news and events, as well as create a printed campus events bulletin. The role also involves monitoring social media interactions, implementing performance tracking strategies, and managing on-campus bulletin boards. The Communications and Social Media Manager will work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance information flow and transparency regarding FVCC events, while maintaining professional ethics and confidentiality of student information. This position reports to the Executive Director of Communications and Marketing, with a dotted line to the Communications and Marketing Manager of Wachholz College Center.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage FVCC and Wachholz College Center's social media presence on platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
  • Conceptualize, write, photograph, film, edit, and post engaging media content that promotes FVCC and Wachholz College Center.
  • Write, design, edit, and distribute three weekly digital newsletters highlighting campus news, events, and announcements.
  • Create and distribute a printed campus events bulletin to inform the campus community about happenings and events.
  • Serve as the point of contact for photographic and video coverage of all FVCC and Wachholz College Center events.
  • Build, maintain, and grow a digital community through social media channels, blogs, email, and websites.
  • Monitor and respond to comments on social media accounts, following guidance from the Executive Director of College Relations, Marketing and Communications.
  • Design and implement social media metrics and performance tracking strategies to gauge success and inform future content creation.
  • Manage on-campus physical bulletin boards, including the approval and posting of posters and signage.
  • Participate in the development of a climate that promotes innovation and continuous improvement in services and information provided to students and faculty.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Digital Media or related field and a minimum of one year of professional related work experience; OR an Associate's degree in the same fields with a minimum of three years of professional related work experience; OR a combination of five years of higher education and professional related work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Experience in marketing and social media management.
  • Supervising experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two to four years' experience in marketing, public relations, communications, filming, photography, editing, and creating digital content.
  • Proven experience managing multiple social media accounts for an organization or institution.
  • Experience promoting speakers, musicians, and cultural performances.
