About the position

The Manager of Community Relations at the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) is responsible for overseeing the Community Relations Office, designing and implementing outreach strategies to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders. This role includes managing an airport noise program, serving as a technical advisor to the MSP Noise Oversight Committee, and ensuring effective communication regarding aircraft noise and facility planning to the public. The position requires collaboration with multiple departments and external organizations to support MAC's strategic goals and community engagement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Community Relations Office and manage staff.
  • Design and implement outreach strategies to engage stakeholders.
  • Manage the airport noise program and serve as a technical advisor to the MSP Noise Oversight Committee.
  • Conduct regular outreach to various stakeholder groups to understand key concerns.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community groups and governmental representatives.
  • Oversee the execution of community engagement opportunities in support of MAC's annual plan.
  • Track federal regulations on aircraft noise policy and advise on emerging issues.
  • Manage the development of noise and land use evaluations for environmental documentation.
  • Create and maintain communication materials related to noise and community relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in aviation, environmental planning, communications, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in airport operations, community relations, or aircraft noise abatement programs.
  • Two years of experience managing and supervising direct reports.
  • Working knowledge of airports, aviation noise issues, and environmental noise regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with outreach strategies sensitive to cultural diversity and political situations.
  • Ability to manage tense situations in a public environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in a staff support role with a public policy committee/board.
  • Previous public engagement activities within the public sector.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and data evaluation applications.
  • Aircraft pilot's license.
