About the position

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) is seeking a Manager for Conference Events & Meeting Planning. This role is pivotal in managing the planning, implementation, and execution of logistical elements to ensure the success of the GCSAA Conference & Trade Show (CTS) and other hosted meetings and events in the Lawrence area. The individual will be responsible for the logistics of key activities and events, as well as managing vendor and partner relationships that are essential for delivering first-class, well-organized events and ensuring positive attendee experiences. The Manager will work closely with the conference events, meeting planning, and trade show team on the strategic planning and long-term development of these events. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to meet high standards for quality and accuracy while adhering to tight deadlines. Strong project management skills are essential, as the role involves managing and prioritizing multiple projects effectively. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to navigate challenging situations while providing high-level customer service. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in a professional setting with a focus on meeting planning and conference management. A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is required. The position also requires the ability to travel, including overnight stays (up to 10%), and proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Experience in a member-driven organization or association is valued but not mandatory. The position will be based at GCSAA's headquarters office in Lawrence, KS.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning, implementation, and execution of logistical elements for the GCSAA Conference & Trade Show and other hosted meetings and events.
  • Oversee logistics of key activities and events, ensuring a well-organized and successful experience for attendees.
  • Manage vendor and partner relationships critical to event success.
  • Collaborate with the conference events, meeting planning, and trade show team on strategic planning and long-term development of events.
  • Ensure high standards for quality and accuracy while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Provide high-level customer service and problem-solving during challenging situations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Five plus years of experience in meeting planning/conference management.
  • Strong project management skills on cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to travel, including overnight stays (up to 10%).
