About the position

The Manager of Corporate Purchasing is responsible for implementing and monitoring sourcing strategies and processes within the organization. This role focuses on supporting the Mechanical Department by sourcing Maintenance of Equipment (MOE) materials and services, ensuring operational requirements are met for locomotives and freight cars. The position involves collaboration with various company locations to align sourcing strategies with business needs and to optimize supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Purchasing Department Leader in developing and delivering sourcing strategies.
  • Select, negotiate, and execute sourcing for assigned commodities, including supplier agreements.
  • Collaborate with company locations to ensure sourcing strategies meet overall commodity objectives.
  • Ensure purchase orders for Mechanical related goods and services are issued within 24 hours of requisition approval.
  • Perform audits of material purchase activity to reduce costs and ensure compliance with pricing contracts.
  • Issue Service Agreements for contractors working on company property.
  • Develop and implement process changes for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing support for planning, ordering, and delivery of assigned commodities.
  • Manage relationships and compliance between Purchasing and Business Units regarding rates and sourcing strategies.
  • Facilitate Requests for Proposals and evaluate bids for MOE Materials and Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or a minimum of 7 years of related purchasing experience, preferably in the rail industry.
  • Knowledge of MOE Materials and Services related to locomotives and freight cars.
  • Experience in assessing supplier capabilities and negotiating supply contracts.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Great Plains or equivalent ERM system.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work independently to meet deadlines.
  • Experience leading projects and cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the railroad industry.
  • Familiarity with Google Maps.
