About the position

The Cost Accounting Manager position at Vaco is a critical role that involves overseeing the management of standard cost systems, manufacturing accounting, and variance reporting. This position is designed for a proactive individual who can lead teams, optimize processes, and enhance systems to align with corporate financial objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for improving and automating procedures, thereby contributing significantly to the company's financial success. In this role, the Cost Accounting Manager will oversee the monthly manufacturing close process, ensuring that all costs are accurately recorded. This includes preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling account balances, and generating comprehensive reports. The manager will analyze plant operational costs on a monthly basis to inform financial decisions and prepare monthly analysis reports related to manufacturing while overseeing related supply chain initiatives. The position requires facilitating monthly meetings with operations and leadership teams to discuss business growth and key cost insights. The manager will develop expertise in both produced and purchased goods to ensure accurate cost accounting and support strategic decision-making. Additionally, the role involves preparing annual cost-of-sales budgets, managing the standard cost roll process, and establishing and maintaining standard product costing. The Cost Accounting Manager will also review cost estimates for new products to determine pricing strategies and collaborate across departments on key projects and cost accounting needs. Leading the annual audit process related to cost of sales, manufacturing operations, and inventory is another key responsibility, along with assisting with the compilation of information for tax return preparation and providing commentary on cost-of-sales variances versus budget. The role may also include performing additional duties as required to support the financial objectives of the company.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA, CMA, and/or MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in manufacturing cost accounting within growing companies, with a solid understanding of full-cycle supply chain management.
  • Advanced skills in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Proven experience supporting senior leadership with financial insights.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (experience with Oracle ERP is advantageous).
  • Experience with Business Performance Management systems (IBM COGNOS TM1 experience preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
