About the position

The Cultivation Manager (Flower) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the flower and pre-harvest operations within the assigned facility. This role focuses on achieving business goals through effective management of the cultivation department, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operational management and business activities of the flower department in their assigned facility.
  • Drive the cultivation department to achieve and surpass goals and objectives, maximizing output and minimizing costs for higher profitability.
  • Implement and enforce SOPs, methods, policies, and objectives to advance cultivation and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor environmental data points and HVAC systems to prevent failures and crop loss.
  • Supervise assistant managers in developing and executing the flower-to-pre-harvest schedule.
  • Coordinate care for multiple growing rooms from vegetative to pre-harvest stages, including training, trimming, pruning, feeding, and watering.
  • Utilize data and cultivation techniques to increase product yield.
  • Ensure high quality and visual aesthetic of medical cannabis products.
  • Assist facility leadership in developing and executing the facility production schedule.
  • Set and maintain flower inventory levels based on cultivation schedules and sales forecasts.
  • Partner with Data Analytics to collect grow and environmental data for future facility and plant growing techniques.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing tactics including Six Sigma to improve product quality and operational effectiveness.
  • Manage department budgets and prepare reports for Cultivation leadership.
  • Utilize KPIs to monitor, adjust, reward, and optimize company operations performance.
  • Partner with Compliance to meet regulatory standards for the department, including document records and inventory counts.
  • Lead the training and development of Assistant Cultivation Managers and Flower Associates to motivate and drive business objectives.
  • Partner with Human Resources to meet hiring needs and conduct performance reviews.
  • Utilize internal tracking systems, ERP, and QMS to ensure consistent products and high-quality control.
  • Create an environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the company's mission, vision, and values.
  • Engage all associates in a manner that supports company strategy and retention.
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective collaborative developer of solutions to business challenges.
  • Update job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations and participating in educational opportunities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in a commercial cultivation facility.
  • Three (3) years' experience in management/leadership roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of cannabis cultivation including organic living soil, permaculture, and horticulture.
  • Strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, initiative, attention to detail, and drive for change.
  • Ability to deliver results timely in a pressure-filled environment.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and able to successfully register with the state's cannabis commission as an agent.
  • Must be able to comply with all laws, regulations, and policies associated with the industry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in plant science, biology, agricultural sciences, or equivalent area of study preferred.
  • 4 years of management/supervisory experience preferred.
  • Operations or performance improvement skill sets preferred.
  • Previous experience in a highly regulated manufacturing, packaging, and/or warehouse environment is a plus.
