About the position

The Data Center Manager (DCM) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of data center operations, ensuring efficient service delivery, quality assurance, and adherence to corporate standards. The role involves managing staffing, facility infrastructure, hardware assets, and continuous improvement initiatives, while coordinating multiple projects with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality, consistent, efficient and accurate work for internal and external customer service surrounding the Company values
  • Adopt and use defined systems, tools, procedures, processes, and standards
  • Manage and complete assigned projects and report progress
  • Update documentation in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintain staffing plan to meet business needs and objectives
  • Assist with new hire interviewing and review support capabilities and establish plans to improve staff performance
  • Deliver employee communications through regularly scheduled group meetings, one on one sessions, and yearly reviews
  • Define employee goals and objectives
  • Maintain staff schedule to meet appropriate shift coverage
  • Task manage resources for complex or high profile installations
  • Oversee and drive projects to on-time completion
  • Develop positive relationships with all customers
  • Provide leadership in resolving/addressing customer issues
  • Enforce established policies and procedures
  • Ensure audit compliance is upheld throughout the facility, among staff and customers
  • Assist Sales teams with tours and provisioning for building out customized data center environments for customer base
  • Establish and enhance operations processes to drive efficiency and lower operational costs
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities
  • Ensure appropriate levels of spares for all dedicated and managed servers and peripherals
  • Ensure focus on technical functions in the data center
  • Ensure focus on facility functions in the data center
  • Responsible for delivering accurate monthly facility capacity metrics
  • Enforce and adhere to all facility standards

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 - 10 years progressive experience in a technology-based customer support and data center operations environment
  • A solid understanding of the service provider business
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues
  • Ability to coordinate projects and programs to ensure that all elements of work meet the quality standards, defined scope, and costs of the organization
  • Ability to manage projects/programs from concept development through implementation
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others with or without the benefit of a direct reporting relationship
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Must exhibit a wide degree of creativity and latitude
  • Ability to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Ability to utilize independent judgment and to support senior managers on operational type projects
  • Ability to work with personnel at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required overseeing critical maintenance activities
  • Ability to commit to be 'on-call' at all times
  • Previous personnel management in a shift-based environment
  • Must have excellent direct customer relations experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills; must work effectively with associates, team player
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written; must communicate effectively and in a professional manner
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, manage priorities, and remain professional at all times
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively
  • Working knowledge with ASHRAE, NEC and NFPA
  • Adequate professional experience and knowledge to perform job responsibilities
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
  • Proficiency in using MS Office Suite and Windows-based computer applications
  • Proficiency in Service Now computer application
  • Ability to differentiate between colors
  • Ability to use small hand tools
  • Must be able to lift objects over one's head
  • Ability to use a ladder to work in elevated areas

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
