About the position

The Manager of Data Engineering role at UPS is a leadership position within the Finance & Accounting department, specifically under the Decision Support Tower. This role focuses on developing and managing data engineering projects that support advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, cloud technologies, and data governance, leading the integration of data from various sources and ensuring the delivery of valuable insights to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and design of data engineering projects and guides the team in building solutions.
  • Provides leadership for data engineering projects and maintenance support.
  • Recommends analytic reporting tools and leads the adoption of emerging technologies.
  • Directs the integration of data for engineering projects.
  • Leads project efforts with technology solutions to perform proof of concept (POC) analysis.
  • Guides the team in organizing data for reporting, analytics, and data mining.
  • Conducts code reviews in programming languages used for statistical analysis and modeling.
  • Leads the implementation strategy and backup/recovery procedures.

Requirements

  • Strong background in managing data transformation programs.
  • Experience in developing and implementing tactical and strategic solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data interconnections between operational and business functions.
  • Knowledge of data life cycle stages including collection, transformation, analysis, and secure storage.
  • Experience in increasing data pipeline throughput and analyzing large data sets.
  • Familiarity with analytic reporting technologies such as Power BI, SAS, Looker, or Alteryx.
  • Strong experience in cloud services platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of managerial experience required.
  • Understanding of machine learning algorithms and data structures.
  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, mathematics, statistics, or computer science, or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred experience in Power BI, SAS, Looker, Alteryx, or similar tools.
  • Preferred experience in Google Cloud Platform, Google BigQuery, Vertex AI, or Gemini AI.
