About the position

The Manager of Data Engineering at Charles Schwab is responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting large-scale ETL and Big Data applications. This role involves ensuring technical integrity, troubleshooting production issues, and facilitating communication during outages. The position also requires collaboration with development teams and business stakeholders to meet production readiness standards and navigate technology policies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and support large-scale and complex ETL and distributed Big Data applications.
  • Work with platform architects to ensure technical integrity and consistency of solutions.
  • Proactively detect, troubleshoot, and resolve all issues affecting production applications.
  • Provide clear, concise, and timely communication to affected parties during investigations and resolutions of outages.
  • Ensure and carry out Change Management hygiene for all changes propagated to production.
  • Assist development teams in application development to meet Production Readiness standards.
  • Educate business stakeholders on Schwab Technology Services standards and policies for new projects or enhancements.
  • Support Incident and Change Management processes with an end-to-end understanding of system flows and technology landscape.
  • Update knowledge repository to ensure availability and accessibility of information regarding support activities.
  • Service all requests for data or activities requiring access to Production systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 60 months of progressive, post-bachelor's experience in a related occupation.
  • Experience with IICS, Oracle, Teradata, DB2, MS SQL, and Hive.
  • Experience with Autosys and Control M, Shell Scripting, Toad, Nexus Query Chameleon, Remedy, Service Now, Jira, GitHub, Splunk, Putty, Talend.
  • Experience with Cloud Data Platforms including Google Big Query, GCS bucket and Data Proc, or Snowflake.
  • Experience with Python Scripting.
