About the position

The Manager, Data Engineering role at MasterCard involves leading Agile Feature teams to implement new data solutions while ensuring the stability of the Decision Management Platform. This platform is crucial for combating fraud and validating cardholder identity, processing billions of transactions daily. The position requires collaboration across various teams and offers the opportunity to work with large data sets, driving innovation in how MasterCard captures, processes, and visualizes transactional data.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning, developing, and executing projects to meet business needs.
  • Understand the systems scope and project objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member, to effectively lead the project team.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with project staff and key stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
  • Regularly communicate to management regarding the status of specific project deliverables.
  • Identify key barriers to project success and actively manage mitigation activities.
  • Prioritize and provide input into cross application/system enhancements, new products, processes, standards, or plans in support of the business.
  • Effectively deal with and develop solutions to moderately difficult problems.
  • Provide technical support to Business Owners during implementation of new products/services.
  • Determine development impacts to current processing and work with analysts and engineers to ensure accuracy of enhancements.
  • Document and coordinate audit controls and PCI requirements.
  • Provide strategic thinking and leadership related to a wide range of applications and systems, or software-development methodologies.
  • Continuously engage and improve teams' performance by conducting recurring 1-1 meetings, managing career development, and understanding team dynamics.
  • Provide and facilitate timely feedback, coaching, and mentoring for staff at all levels.

Requirements

  • High proficiency in using Python, Spark, Hadoop platforms & tools (Hive, Impala, Airflow, NiFi, Scoop), SQL in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience leading engineering teams and/or coaching and mentoring junior teammates.
  • Proficiency with Java/Spring Boot, Angular, AngularJS, Nod.js, JavaScript, Typescript, and SQL Server or other object-oriented languages, front-end frameworks, and/or relational database technologies.
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation with a willingness and ability to learn and take on challenging opportunities.
  • Experience identifying and implementing technical improvements to development processes.
  • Experience leading a large technical effort that spans multiple people and teams.
  • Strong technologist with a proven track record of learning new technologies and frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong relationship, collaborative, and organization skills.
