About the position

At Capital One, we are seeking a Manager of Data Engineering who is passionate about building and pioneering in the technology space. This role is pivotal in solving complex business problems within a fast-paced, collaborative, inclusive, and iterative delivery environment. As a Data Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team of makers, breakers, doers, and disruptors, all dedicated to addressing real customer needs and driving significant transformation within the organization. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions using full-stack development tools and technologies. In this position, you will work closely with a team of developers who possess deep expertise in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full-stack systems. You will utilize programming languages such as Java, Scala, and Python, along with Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, as well as cloud-based data warehousing services like Redshift and Snowflake. Your role will also involve sharing your enthusiasm for staying updated on tech trends, experimenting with new technologies, and mentoring other members of the engineering community. You will collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that enhance user experiences and empower millions of Americans financially. Additionally, you will perform unit tests and conduct code reviews to ensure that your code is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and optimized for performance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions.
  • Work with developers experienced in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full-stack systems.
  • Utilize programming languages like Java, Scala, Python, and Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
  • Leverage cloud-based data warehousing services such as Redshift and Snowflake.
  • Stay updated on tech trends and experiment with new technologies.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering community.
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions.
  • Perform unit tests and conduct code reviews to ensure code quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 6 years of experience in application development (Internship experience does not apply).
  • At least 2 years of experience in big data technologies.
  • At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 7+ years of experience in application development including Python, SQL, Scala, or Java.
  • 4+ years of experience with a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • 4+ years of experience with distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL).
  • 4+ years of experience working on real-time data and streaming applications.
  • 4+ years of experience with NoSQL implementation (Mongo, Cassandra).
  • 4+ years of data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake).
  • 4+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting.
  • 2+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices.
