As a Data Engineering Manager, you will take ownership of designing, building, testing, and maintaining data pipelines at a large scale. This role requires a strong background in advanced modeling techniques and statistical analysis, as you will lead a team responsible for developing solutions that drive business results and support operations initiatives. Your expertise will be crucial in delivering end-to-end solutions that not only address current challenges but also anticipate future needs in the realm of sustainability and ESG initiatives. In this position, you will be deeply involved in the technical aspects of data engineering, including code development, architectural reviews, and deployment processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that data solutions align with FedEx's strategic goals, particularly in sustainability. Your leadership will guide the team in implementing best practices for data accuracy, integrity, and security, especially concerning ESG-related data processes. You will also stay abreast of industry trends to continuously improve our data engineering practices and ensure that our solutions are innovative and effective. As a manager and doer, you will not only lead your team but also mentor them, fostering a culture of accountability and performance. Your ability to communicate effectively with senior management and stakeholders will be essential in providing updates on project progress and key metrics. This role is pivotal in advancing FedEx Dataworks' capabilities and ensuring that our data engineering efforts contribute significantly to the company's overall success.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining all application software and data pipelines for real-time/batch analysis, modeling, reporting, and data collection, ensuring data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
• Collaborate effectively with other groups in FedEx Dataworks including Data Science, E-Commerce Products, Supply Chain Solutions, and Platform Engineering to deliver high value platform enhancing capabilities and customer-centered solutions.
• Ensure delivery teams build, deploy, and maintain data processing infrastructure that supports complex analysis across data science, product, application development, and strategic teams.
• Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security in all ESG-related data processes.
• Develop and implement strategies for data collection, storage, and analysis to support ESG reporting and decision-making.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in ESG data management and integrate them into our data engineering processes.
• Work closely with the sustainability team to align data engineering efforts with the company's ESG goals and initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to best practices to ensure reliability, resiliency, security, privacy, and compliance for all data assets.
• Coach and mentor other team members to drive results and effectively collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver business goals.
• Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure successful project delivery.
• Communicate effectively with senior management and other stakeholders to provide updates on project progress and key metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics or Engineering and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.
• Seven (7) years equivalent work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development and/or predictive analytics.
• Proven experience in data engineering, with a focus on ESG or sustainability data preferred.
• Extensive knowledge in data engineering and machine learning frameworks including design, development and implementation of highly complex systems and data pipelines.
• Strong background and experience in the use of sophisticated descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive and ensemble modeling, advanced statistical techniques, and complex mathematical tools.
• Experience in the transportation industry and understanding of evolving technology.
• Familiarity with analyzing large-scale structured and unstructured data using Scala and Python.
• Experience working in Big Data technologies like Spark, Kafka, etc., with a solid understanding of best practices.
• Development experience within Cloud technologies like Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud platform.
