About the position

The Manager of Data Engineering at Canoe Intelligence is responsible for leading and inspiring a team of data engineers. This role involves overseeing data engineering work, mentoring team members, and driving the design and development of Canoe's data platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in data modeling and infrastructure, along with proven leadership skills to foster a collaborative team culture and accelerate product growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of six data engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, promoting professional growth and development.
  • Drive the hiring process to attract top talent.
  • Collaborate with product management and other stakeholders to define and prioritize technical projects.
  • Drive the design and development of Canoe's data platform.
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and resources to ensure successful project completion.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, remove roadblocks, and ensure a continuous flow of information within the team.
  • Adapt to changing requirements and provide innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 in a data engineering role.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading teams and managing individual contributors.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally with Product and other Engineering teams to deliver data-driven solutions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguous or missing information and adapt quickly in a startup-like environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for getting involved in both technical details and high-level strategy.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with core technologies: Kafka, PostgreSQL, AWS, Snowflake.
