About the position

The Manager of Data Governance & Management at American Express is responsible for overseeing data governance within the Finance department. This role involves ensuring compliance with the Enterprise Data Governance policy, managing data quality, and collaborating with various teams to enhance data management processes. The position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to drive strategic improvements in data governance practices.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the Enterprise Data Governance Policy for data asset management, metadata management, and data quality.
• Participate in all aspects of Data Governance including data activation steps and compliance with data standards.
• Support strategic improvements to data assessment processes and enhance data analytical and quality tools.
• Lead root-cause analysis of data quality issues and support remediation of Audit and Regulatory feedback.
• Support the development, validation, and maintenance of business glossary, data integration, data lineage, and data management activities.

Requirements

• 5+ years of work experience in Banking/Financial Services.
• Technical and data analysis skills with prior experience in SQL.
• Knowledge of data governance practices and issues related to management of enterprise information assets.
• Demonstrated understanding of metadata practices such as data lineage and data dictionaries.
• Working knowledge of Agile methodology and other project management methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in Finance/Accounting.
• Prior experience with data governance and metadata tools such as Collibra or MANTA.
