About the position

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking an experienced Manager of Data Governance to lead and oversee the enterprise data governance program within the Analytics and Integrated Planning (AIP) division. This role is crucial for the development and daily operations of data governance processes, ensuring that institutional data is effectively managed and utilized to empower decision-making across the university. The AIP division specializes in strategic planning, advanced analysis, reporting, and institutional research, aiming to leverage institutional data through enhanced analytics. As the Manager of Data Governance, you will serve as the subject matter expert on data governance best practices and implementation strategies. You will be responsible for overseeing the centralized data governance application, maintaining an inventory of enterprise data definitions, and coordinating the collection and reporting of data quality metrics. Your role will involve facilitating Data Governance Council meetings, drafting deliverables, and recommending best practices to ensure effective data governance policies and procedures are in place. In addition, you will coordinate activities among data domain owners and provide coaching on data hierarchies and information flows. You will also support data quality issue analysis and remediation, conduct audits to ensure compliance with governance policies, and develop educational materials to promote data governance awareness across the institution. This position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as you will collaborate with various stakeholders across campus at all levels. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can prioritize tasks effectively and work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage centralized data governance application to maintain inventory of enterprise data definitions, including data source systems, lineage, and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the collection and reporting of data quality metrics for periodic release.
  • Facilitate Data Governance Council meetings and activities.
  • Draft and recommend deliverables and best practices to the Data Governance Council, including data governance policies, templates for processes, standards, procedures, and reporting.
  • Coordinate activities and collaboration among data domain owners, subdomain data administrators, operational data managers, and data stewards; provide coaching on defined data domains, data hierarchies, and information flows for executing their responsibilities.
  • Support data quality issue analysis and remediation for enterprise data.
  • Provide quality assurance oversight, monitoring, and reporting results to the Data Governance Council.
  • Develop and deliver data governance program educational, awareness, and mentoring materials, including the design and update of data governance website.
  • Conduct audits to ensure that policies, procedures, and metrics are in place for maintaining and improving the enterprise data governance program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree and 10+ years relevant experience with at least 5+ years of leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with data governance programs in higher education or business is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with staff at many levels of an organization, including senior administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information effectively and professionally.
  • Agile, versatile, flexible, and able to adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team-based environment.
