About the position

The Manager of the database team at Visa will oversee a group of database administrators and engineers responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting Cardinal's databases. This role involves managing multiple projects, ensuring the safety and efficiency of database operations, and collaborating with various teams to provide solutions to both internal and external customers. The manager will also be responsible for implementing security protocols, resource planning, and improving operational processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage the delivery of multiple simultaneous projects from design through release.
• Develop and maintain organizations' databases.
• Create data storage and retrieval systems.
• Troubleshoot database issues.
• Implement database recovery procedures and safety protocols.
• Supervise the daily activities of the database team.
• Ensure the safety of a company's information by implementing security programs.
• Implement tools and procedures for effective and efficient operational management of the environment.
• Make key decisions to ensure successful implementation of initiatives.
• Participate in functional and technical meetings throughout the development lifecycle.
• Compose internal documentation reflecting processes and system configuration.
• Plan, organize, and execute critical projects to support the stability of Cardinal systems.
• Assist with audits of servers and environment to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
• Manage resource planning, utilizations, and on-call schedules.
• Improve operations by recommending changes in processes and procedures.

Requirements

• 5 years relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree; OR 8 years relevant work experience.
• 3+ years of experience with managing database teams.
• 2+ years of experience managing projects and people.
• 1+ years of experience working in an Agile environment.
• Experience with Mongo, Microsoft SQL, Redis, Kafka, ActiveMQ.
• Experience with web-based, service-oriented applications.

Nice-to-haves

• 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree in information technology or a similar discipline or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD.
