About the position

The Manager - Digital Product Management at American Express will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of data governance and management within the organization. This position is designed for a candidate with a strong background in data management and governance, who will collaborate with various teams across the American Express Enterprise Data Management and Governance team, federated data management teams, partners, and technology teams. The primary focus will be to define and deliver a comprehensive product roadmap that aligns with data governance policies, automates data management routines, and supports the effective organization and governance of Amex data at scale. In this role, the Manager will exemplify strong data governance product experience, particularly in areas such as data dictionary harvesting, data lineage, cataloging, and ensuring data quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining product strategies and automation frameworks for system integrations, enhancing user experience, and guiding technology teams in implementing these strategies. A deep understanding of the technology stack, including Java, Python, Spark, and Scala, as well as database management (SQL, NoSQL), is essential. The Manager will translate product vision into well-defined product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria, while actively participating in all phases of the Agile product delivery process. This includes managing the Enterprise Data Management product backlog, balancing the needs of various partners, and facilitating communication to resolve risks and issues. Post-launch, the Manager will prioritize bugs and feature requests based on customer satisfaction, ensuring continuous improvement of the products. Additionally, the role involves conducting tool evaluations and proof-of-concepts for Enterprise Data Management solutions, as well as adopting new technologies that enhance scalability and improve customer experiences, including artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. The incumbent will also lead various implementation aspects within the evolving landscape of data governance and regulatory environments, making this a dynamic and impactful position within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate across the American Express Enterprise Data Management and Governance team, federated data management teams, partners, and technology teams to define and deliver a product roadmap.
  • Exemplify strong data governance product experience in harvesting data dictionary, lineage, catalog, and data quality.
  • Define product strategies and automation frameworks for system integrations and user experience.
  • Build a unified portal and address various Data Governance/Data Management needs.
  • Translate product vision and roadmap into well-defined product requirements, user stories, and acceptance test criteria.
  • Manage the Enterprise Data Management product backlog, balancing requirements of various partners and facilitating resolution of risks and issues.
  • Continually improve products post-launch, prioritizing bugs and feature requests based on customer satisfaction.
  • Actively participate in all phases of the Agile product delivery process.
  • Conduct tool evaluations and proof-of-concepts for Enterprise Data Management solutions.
  • Adopt new technologies that drive scalability and improve customer experiences.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in product management and/or product development.
  • Proven track record of leading large and complex products in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Data Governance and Management concepts, including API integration, metadata, lineage, and data quality.
  • Experience with Data Governance products like MANTA, Colibra, Alation, Atlan, IGC.
  • Strong understanding of technical stacks including Java, Python, Spark, Scala, and database management (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Ability to perform requirements analysis and document processes related to metadata management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.
