About the position

At American Express, we are seeking a talented and experienced Product Manager to join our Enterprise Platforms Loyalty and Benefits organization. This role is pivotal in driving the transformation of our existing Loyalty platforms, which are essential for fulfilling many of our global Card Member capabilities. These platforms not only support business growth but also ensure compliance with stability and high transaction volumes. The transformation initiative aims to enhance efficiency, agility, cost-effectiveness, innovation, and speed to market, ultimately providing the best customer experience. As a Product Manager, you will collaborate closely with engineering teams to prioritize the product backlog, develop user stories, and work together to deliver on various loyalty initiatives. Your role will involve consulting with key business partners and stakeholders to articulate desired outcomes and expectations, aligning initiatives with key metrics, and driving consensus around Minimum Viable Product (MVP) definitions. You will also work with execution teams to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality feature launches. In this position, you will be responsible for evaluating initiatives against opportunity costs, feasibility, and product roadmaps. A significant aspect of your role will be to foster a culture of agility and product ownership in partnership with technology and business teams. You will engage deeply with various business teams to understand their current and future needs, ensuring that our product strategy is robust and informed by market research and internal stakeholder analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Enterprise Platforms to leverage best practices and evaluate new opportunities and enhancements.
  • Establish a robust product strategy using inputs from market research and analysis from internal stakeholders such as marketing and compliance.
  • Engage deeply with various business teams to understand current and future needs.
  • Build a strong understanding of the payment and loyalty domain as well as the competitive landscape.
  • Manage a product backlog of features and capabilities in collaboration with business teams.
  • Translate features into prioritized user stories and manage work allocation of scrum teams.
  • Participate in and support agile practices and ceremonies to reinforce the agile transformation of the delivery team.
  • Communicate and build consensus across multiple teams to create solutions for business needs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience in Software Product Management with a proven track record in defining product constructs and delivering a product roadmap.
  • Hands-on experience in building a distributed technology stack and transitioning from mainframe to distributed systems.
  • Strong team skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience with agile and scrum software development methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to consult with various stakeholders and drive optimal requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Project management skills with the ability to prioritize and complete tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry and associated products is desirable.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Bachelor's (or comparable experience) in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline required. Master's degree preferred.
