About the position

As a Manager of Digital Product Solution Design at American Express, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the business architecture of Risk Capabilities. This position is both business and technology facing, requiring you to map business processes to capabilities and provide end-to-end solutions for prioritized features using program increments. You will ensure a flexible and global system/capability design, along with a 1-2 year capability roadmap that includes performance, availability, and test automation. Your collaboration with product managers, business managers, and engineering leaders will be crucial in converting business ideas and visions into a comprehensive development roadmap. In addition to the architectural responsibilities, you will be tasked with developing a multi-year strategy to modernize platforms within American Express. This includes managing day-to-day solution management cadence within the SAFE (Scaled Agile) framework for Authorizations processes. Your success in this role will depend on your ability to ensure that platform transformations meet the evolving needs of risk management through continual innovation. You will be expected to design new use cases that fuel growth, reduce time to market, and manage losses effectively. Strong organizational, technical, and creative problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple levels of leadership. You will work in a dynamic, complex environment and under deadline pressures, propagating architectural flows and governance to scrum teams and/or SAFE trains to deploy new business features across markets and products for risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Create architectural blueprints for business initiatives to ensure consistency across markets and products, tracking progress from legacy to future state platforms.
  • Define the architecture roadmap and deployment plan, ensuring that risk processes and platforms are moving in the right direction.
  • Consolidate and correlate disconnected business needs and processes, articulating their collective relevance through analysis.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of business processes, drivers for change, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Maintain an inventory and knowledge base on business processes, business capabilities, and technical components, along with other architectural artifacts such as data architecture and application architecture.
  • Manage solution cadence by interacting with partners (Risk, AET, Marketing) to identify needs, opportunities, and gaps, and solve problems.
  • Brainstorm and negotiate effectively with various stakeholders to continuously develop the best design.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years in agile product development and delivery.
  • 1-2 years of solution architecture experience.
  • Credit and Fraud Risk Management experience is a plus.
  • A good balance of business acumen and technical knowledge with a proven track record of driving digital innovation and architecture with a customer-first mindset.
  • Established background in launching software or services in partnership with engineering teams and high proficiency in prototyping, iterative development, and Scaled Agile Framework principles.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for building great products and services with the ability to articulate product functionality.
  • Understanding of evolving compliance and regulatory requirements and how to incorporate technology, infrastructure, and security requirements into product design.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire partners to drive collaboration and alignment.
  • High degree of organization, individual initiative, and personal accountability.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with a highly analytical approach.
  • MBA or Computer Science degree related to a technical field is ideal.
